In Health and Physical Education, our hapu have been learning Cricket and Basketball skills with coaches. For four weeks, we have had coach Roni for basketball and coach Josie from Auckland Cricket come to our school and instruct our learners. The children have learned lots of skills for both games. In basketball, these skills include: dribbling, arm bar, stance and passing. In cricket, skills included: over arm and under arm throw, batting, bowling and catching. Both sports got learners to develop their capabilities and curiosities in these sports, form connections in both codes and to collaborate with others.

Suri enjoys sports and Physical Education. She shows capabilities in both sports and demonstrates skills she has learned.

Key Competencies: Managing Self Thinking Relating to others Participating and Contributing and through the use of digital tools - using language, symbols and texts

Suri's Firework Painting

Guess what our hapu did? On monday we got to play cricket in the multispace. We got to learn some skills. My favourite skill was bowling, oh i almost forgot our coaches name was Josie. Bowling was even the first skill we learned. Their were three types of bowling under arm, over arm and the um… let's just say around bowling cause you swing your arm around. We played snowflake tag. So basically one person has a ball. I got to be the first tager coach Josie said “how we play snowflake tag, so one person is the tager’’ thats me “and tag people with the ball then they get a ball and they are a tager too’’ last man standing wins. After we learned over arm, under arm and around bowling. We did under arm first, we had to go in partners i was with Riley-C. We did pretty good with all. When we learned around bowling i said to Riley “this is how you do it so you need to hold the ball with two hands next to your chest, put your foot out, put the ball in your throwing hand and you are gonna put your arm with the ball straight pointing at the back, and you other arm pointing forwards then swing the back arm around and the front arm going around with it and release that is how you do it’’ I had so much fun playing cricket. I hope we do it next year.

Narrative Assessment: Suri and Writing

Learner: Suri
Area:Writing Level 2
Date: 12.11.18
In Writing, we have been recounting our experiences. A recount is retelling a learner's experience from their own point of view. Our experiences include: blindfold game, cricket and basketball. We have been learning to add in detail by using adjectives, verbs, feelings and emotions in our writing. Our hapu have been working hard to include at least three different words to paint a better picture for our audience.

Suri is beginning to build sentences into paragraphs. She has been learning to add more detail and ideas into her writing. Suri is beginning to order her ideas carefully into paragraphs.
She is developing her curiosity by asking questions and is slowly making connections by using ideas discussed in a larger group. Suri collaborates with others by sharing her ideas in discussions. She is beginning to think carefully about her ideas and the audience she is writing for.

Key Competencies: Managing Self Thinking Relating to others Participating and Contributing and through the use of digital tools - using language, symbols and texts

Next Steps:
Continue using detailed ideas in your writing
Reflect on your learning and think of how you can improve
Keep practising your writing at home

the blindfold game

Guess what happened? Our hapu went to the library. We played the blindfold game. My experience was so weird. Once i was moving i suddenly forgot everything that happened. We had to go in partners i was with Sanjana. On the next day we got to go to the playground to do blindfolds i kept on bumping and crashing. I was so scared to bump into stuff. Sanjana made me go up the log stairs but i touched something really weird when i gpt to the top step. On the bottom step i slipped. I thought she was taking me back to the start but nope. I had so much fun it was pitch black witch made it harder and i like it that was. That was a bit of my experience being blind folded. I was so happy.

the new play ground

Today the new playground just opened. It is so fun and big. But to be honest there is not a lot. I expected that there would be a lot more. The whole lavakula hapu went to it in writing. The first thing did is my favourite the climbing pole. The one on the sides are the lowest one. The two in the middle are the second quite tall one. Last but not least is the really high one. It was so high i was even scared to go on it. I managed to climb the second highest and the lowest. The next thing i did was that i went to this steering wheel. When you steer it crazy water will go out from the pipe. This thing can hold the water and release it. When the water is released the water goes to the sand and there is a hole that the water can go in. The playground is a lot of fun. I was a bit scared because the pole was quite high. I thought there would be cool monkey bars and they are different and a bigger slide. Ladder monkey bars and a swing that can hold one person.
